Question: When is the parade?
Answer: The 2009 Lektro Astoria Regatta Grand Land Parade is on Saturday August 11, 2009.
Question: When does the parade start?
Answer: The parade starts at 12:00 Noon August 11th. Check in starts at 9:00 AM at the Astoria Aquatic Center. Judging for awards starts at 10:30 AM. Your group needs to be ready to go by 11:00 so Regatta Volunteers can get each Formation Zone in order for the parade.
Question: How long is the parade?
Answer: The parade route is about a mile long.
Question: How much does it cost to enter a unit in the parade?
Answer: There is no charge, although the Regatta Association does accept donations.
Question: When should I register my unit for the parade?
Answer: As soon as possible. We will accept online parade entries up to 8:00 PM Thursday August 9, 2009. Parade entries will be accepted the morning of the parade until 10:00 AM August 11, 2009.
Question: Will I be notified that my parade entry has been accepted?
Answer: We will e-mail parade entrants with their formation zone information when we receive their application. Applications received via regular mail will receive e-mail notification if possible, then via fax.
Question: How is placement in the parade determined?
Answer: There is a protocol for placement. We try to place entries according to date their application is received, and try to spread similar type units evenly through the parade. We also try to make sure performing units are spaced through out the parade, and try to place units play music in between units that do not play music or make noise. If you have a special request for placement, please let us know. We will make every effort to accommodate your needs.
Question: What do I do the morning of the parade?
Answer: We need one member of your group to come to the Astoria Aquatic Center, 1997 Marine Drive, and check in. The rest of your group can go to your formation zone. When you check in we will know that you are going to be in the parade, and can include you in the final parade order for the announcers along the parade route. Units that do not check in may be placed at the end of the parade.
Question: What if I have questions or problems the morning of the parade?
Answer: There will be Regatta volunteers in each zone. They should be able to answer any questions, or can find someone that will know the answer for you.
Question: How often can we perform along the parade route?
Answer: If a performance is a part of your parade presentation, we ask that you limit yourself to 60 second performances at the Bank of Astoria Viewing Stand and at the Main Reviewing stand at the John Jacob Astor Hotel parking lot near the end of the parade route.
Question: Where does the parade start and stop?
Answer: The parade starts at 17th and Exchange, and after going through downtown Astoria, ends at 16th and Marine Drive. Due to the compact size of the parade route, we will have a volunteer at 16th and Duane briefly stopping units starting the parade so units finishing the parade can cross the parade route and return to the disband area.
Question: How much space should there be between my unit and the unit in front.
Answer: We have a very compact parade route. Units need to be within 50-60 feet of each other. A Regatta Volunteer will ask your group to catch up to the group in front of you if there is a large space between parade units.
