Where: Meet at John Day County Park Dock -
Order of Events: We will first do a short training of the guests on paddling strokes, following boat commands, boat safety.
Then we will load the boats and take them out on the river and bay - mostly within sight of the shore at John Day County Park so photos can be taken from land as well as the boat.
We will provide lifejackets and paddles.
What to wear:
We usually go out rain or shine - we do limit going out due to the following conditions:
If wind gusts are trending over 23 mph (although the John Day River is much protected from prevailing wind and wind gusts.)
If there is lightning or predicted lightning
If it’s raining so hard we can’t keep up with bailing 🙂
So, that said, dress for the weather.
If it’s sunny, wear:
Pants, Shorts, sweatpants, leggings, a skort or ?
T-shirt, long sleeve or short sleeve or tank top depending on your choice
Sunglasses
Sunscreen
Baseball or sunhat if you choose
Tennis shoes or water shoes, or sandals (they will get wet)
If it’s raining:
Shorts, sweatpants, leggings, a skort or ?
T-shirt, long sleeve or short sleeve or tank top depending on your choice
Baseball or some kind of hat if you choose
Tennis shoes or water shoes, or sandals (they will get wet)
Light rain jacket if you want that can go over or under your PFD. - this is optional as well. Our paddlers don’t usually wear rain coats because they stay warm paddling….
Whatever they wear, it should be comfortable to move around in. They can bring a water bottle if they want, but nothing else. There isn’t room in the boat to really shed clothing so anything they take off should wrap around their waist.
Requirements:
Passengers must be at least 16 years old with a valid Drivers licence or state ID card. Passengers may be asked to show ID.
Passengers must be able to climb in and out of the boat unassisted. Boat is lower than the dock.
Insurance Waiver:
Here is the link to the insurance waiver. Please have everyone who is riding on the boat complete this form, even the photographer. This waiver is fillable online. You don’t need to bring a copy, because we can see when it is signed. Passengers under 18 years of age will need to have parents sign the waiver. All passengers sign as a GUEST.
